The Shenandoah Region of PCA was on pins and needles all week waiting to see what kind of weather day we would have for the Anniversary party. Luckily, the weather gods smiled down on us delivering a gorgeous fall day at the beautiful venue of Southwest Mountain Vineyard located in Keswick, VA. The vineyard’s staff and facilities were simply fantastic.
The volunteers started arriving about 10 am and the winery was in full swing setting up for the event. When Region members arrived, volunteers checked them in and directed them to park along the estate road forming a picturesque Porsche line-up. A little after 10 am a pickup truck towing a trailer came lumbering up the driveway. The England’s had brought their rare 1992 Porsche America Roadster PTS to share with our club. It was almost as much fun to watch them unload the car as it was to see the bright yellow Porsche take in the gorgeous day on the top of a grassy knoll overlooking the beautiful vineyard. The art of transport could be admired as well, the England’s trailered their fantastic car in an incredible Futura Trailer (our event sponsor represents this line).
We were grateful the Scrogham family could join us as Weldon and Phylis Scrogham were instrumental in launching the Shenandoah Region of PCA 29 years ago. Their son, Cole Scrogham, continues to carry on their legacy. We celebrated the Scrogham’s family contributions on this beautiful day.
Club members enjoyed an excellent buffet lunch and meandered under our tent, out on the winery’s patio and at the beverage bar. From that bar, and from atop the winery’s second story deck, you could see the ‘Porsche Hill’ and winery owner Paul Manning’s private driveway which was lined with a cornucopia of 70 fantastic cars that would light up any Porsche enthusiast’s face.
