The Region’s first activity was the “Fall Event,” a rally/tour up Afton Mountain to the Blue Ridge Parkway eventually ending up at G&W Motorwerkes in Waynesboro for a 911 tech session. Our first annual Holiday Party at the Boar’s Head Inn in Charlottesville on December 9th was so successful that the 1996 party was booked before the 1995 party was over. By the end of 1995, our membership had doubled to 43.

The first Shenandoah Region autocross was held in May 1996 in a parking lot in Waynesboro. Followed by a cookout, the most-asked question was when are we going to do this again? We celebrated our first anniversary in August 1996 with an afternoon at the Waynesboro Go-Kart track followed by birthday cake at Weldon and Phyllis Scrogham’s home. Our first track event was a Brian Redman driving school in October 1996 at the Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia. In 1997 the initial Richmond Porsche Meet featured a concours at the home of Alex and Gail Smith, a driving tour, and an autocross event at Virginia Motorsport Park. Since these initial steps, our region’s membership has grown to over 500 Primary and Affiliate members.

Taking advantage of the scenic sinuous roads the Shenandoah Region has to offer, today we organize driving tours, drive and dine socials, run six autocross events per year, and host a variety of other educational and social events throughout the year. Our annual Holiday party in early December is a very popular gathering now held at the historic Michie Tavern near Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello home. At this party we raffle-off some great prizes, recognize the outstanding members who make our events happen, and award trophies to our autocross class winners for the year.

Our premier event each year is the Richmond Porsche Meet. Aptly named RPM, it’s held in early September and includes a Friday evening cocktail party, a “tops only” Concours d’Elegance, a Porsche corral, and a catered luncheon where the concours prizes are awarded. RPM wraps-up with a driving tour and informal social.

Our members are also active in regional activities such as Charlottesville Cars and Coffee and other automotive-focused gatherings and charitable fund raisers like Toys for Tots. We even run a charitable event we call Turkeys in the Trunk to benefit local food banks during the holiday period.

We encourage all of our members to be active participants in the club, not only by attending functions, but also in helping to execute events and starting new ones. We have a great support network to help new members become active club members. Members may contribute articles, photographs, and/or short videos for publication on our website’s News page, our Porsche Club of America – Shenandoah Region Facebook page, and on our shenandoah_region_pca Instagram page.
