The air is finally getting chilly; we’re starting to rake leaves and, as the Holiday Season approaches, members from Shenandoah Region and First Settlers Region members from in and around Richmond got together for the second annual SRPCA “Turkeys in the Trunk” event on Saturday, November 18, 2017. Two opportunities to share the Holiday Spirit and give back to the communities in our Porsche Club of America Regions!
For those of you who haven’t been to “Turkeys in the Trunk,” this is how it works: First, you load (or any quantity you feel appropriate) your front trunk (frunk), or your back trunk, if you have one, your roof rack, your passenger foot well… or wherever, with frozen turkeys, canned vegetables, yams, non-perishable food and the rest of the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal. Don’t forget to leave room for your spouse or significant other, but tell them to pack lightly!
Western/Central Segment Shenandoah Region
On Saturday, November 18, a group of Shenandoah Region members met at Flow Porsche for the second annual “Turkeys in their Trunks.” Participants included Hank & Jolly Weil, Mark & Marty Doherty, Bill Blodgett, Michael Evans, Gary Hunter, Jason Wavell, Victoria Mason, Mark Sackson, Jim Ballheim, Daniel Kuchenberg, Paula Ironmonger, Shannon and Tully Kennedy, and John Carpenter and Ray Tinsley from Flow Porsche. The group drove from Flow Porsche to take their food contributions to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank on Harris Street in Charlottesville.
The event was a resounding success and all participants felt such gratification about being able to provide food for those less fortunate in the area. A total of 378 pounds of turkeys were donated along with 493 pounds of non-perishable food items. Some members provided monetary contributions totaling $1600 via checks made out to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. The total of these contributions will feed 7126 individuals in the immediate area. After this event, the group drove to the Tip Top restaurant for lunch and to socialize and get to know each other better. Terry Vissalos, the owner of the Tip Top Restaurant and a Club member, had a table waiting for the group. Lunch was complements of the Shenandoah Region.
It was a wonderful experience and something that the Shenandoah Region can look forward to supporting again in the future. Imagine if we had as many Shenandoah Region members attending this event as we do for some of our tours and drives through the Virginia countryside. Our goal in 2018 is to make an even bigger contribution to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

Eastern Segment Shenandoah Region & First Settlers Region Richmond Area
On Saturday, November 18, a group of Shenandoah Region and First Settlers Region members from in and around Richmond came to Euroclassics Porsche from 10 AM to 1 PM to make contributions to the Greater Richmond Food Bank (aka Feedmore), Central Virginia’s core hunger-relief organization dedicated to providing neighbors in need with healthy meals. Feedmore had a refrigerated truck on site to accept the donations. Participants from the Shenandoah Region included Randy Bell, Kevin Leonard, Bruce Russell, David & Mark Isreal, Mike & Brenda Moorefield, Ken Nachman, and Chip Williams. Participants from the First Settlers Region included Charlie Agee, Tim & Dana Ashbridge, Keith & Kris Burns, Kevin Clark, Paul Littill, William Proffitt, Steve Sarfaty, Greg Snell, David & Nancy Wallace, John Wanner, Thomas & Angela Maisch, and Chris Rennie General Manager, Euroclassics.
A special thanks to Randy Bell, Kevin Leonard, and Brian Faulkner, Customer Experience Manager at Euroclassics for organizing this event and to Feedmore for providing a refrigerated truck on site to collect the donations. We also appreciate the continued support of Mark Cooke and his staff at Euroclassics Porsche, 11900 Midlothian Turnpike, Midlothian.
After the donations were made many of the participants went across Midlothian Turnpike to Wegman’s Pub for a delicious, late, light lunch complements of First Settlers Region. The joint regional event was a rousing success for our first time!
