Porsche Club of America members from the Shenandoah and First Settler regions gathered Saturday morning, November 23, 2024, at Porsche Charlottesville and at Euroclassics Detailing for our annual Turkeys in the Trunk (or frunk depending on the Porsche model) event. Our goal was to give back to the community by providing food and funding for the food bank systems in our area.
Those of us that met at Porsche Charlottesville took a short drive to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank in Charlottesville to unload our trunks/frunks. Meanwhile to the east, the folks that gathered at Euroclassics Detail drove to Feed More Food Bank which is the new name for the Central Virginia Food Bank. We all learned that the need for assistance grows every year and donations and volunteers are the heart of the food bank system.
After the frozen turkeys, stuffing ingredients, canned vegetables, and other non-perishable food items were unloaded and weighed, the West region donations totaled 1,380 pounds of food and an additional $1,775. The East region contributed 505 pounds of food and a very substantial monetary donation of $5,185.
Since the inception of this event eight years ago, the total impact of our donations has been the equivalent of over 28,000 meals. The results of our donations to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank were summarized in a short video and post on the Channel 29 News website. The same short feature was posted to websites for sister stations WHSV Channel 3 in Harrisburg and WDBJ Channel 7 in Roanoke. CBS 19 News in Charlottesville also had their own short feature on the event.
A special shout out goes to Anita Barber of Porsche Charlottesville for arranging a fantastic barista and assorted yummy pastries to get our groups of 25 Porsche enthusiasts fueled-up.
