The Charlottesville component of the Shenandoah Region’s 9th Annual Turkeys in the Trunk event was another outstanding success. Although the day was a bit gloomy, hopefully our efforts will raise the spirits of many others.

A group of about 30 Shenandoah Region members gathered at Porsche Charlottesville at 10:30 AM to share some delicious pastries and drink some excellent coffee creations from Jordan the Barista. We were greeted by Porsche Charlottesville’s new Service Manager, Skip Schinsing, who brings a wealth of experience to the dealership.

After talking cars for an hour or so the group set out for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank (BRAFB) location on 1207 Harris Street in Charlottesville. Contents in the frunks of Boxsters, Caymans, and 911s, as well as the trunks of Cayennes and Macans were unloaded and wheeled into the food bank’s building. Frozen turkeys, canned fruits and vegetables, and other non-perishable foods, typically those associated with a Thanksgiving meal were the goal for our donations.

We were greeted again this year by BRAFB’s Les Sinclair who, after all the food donations were weighed and cash donations totaled, said our contributions would cover more than 8,800 meals. But being so close to 9,000 prompted more last-minute cash donations putting our efforts over that mark, which is yet another new record for the annual drive and a testament to the club member’s desire to give back to the community.
